I Went To Auto Salon

January 15th, 2012

20120116-103615.jpgIt was OK. If I had a picture of poopy pants, I would have titled the post “Don’t Take Your Kids To Auto Salon, And How The Hell Do You Wash Your Hands Without Soap?” FRS and 787B were wicked though. D1 in a parking lot is silly.

Coincidence

January 11th, 2012

20120111-222223.jpgThe birthday paradox applies everywhere and makes he world feel very small sometimes. Like when I stumble upon a good wheel find for the Celica and pull the trigger without much thought.

With 120million people in Japan, the seller ends up being just down the street from my Japanese residence; a fellow ST185 and AE86 owner; and a former resident of NW Calgary. Good grief.

The wheels themselves are boring as hell Enkei RP01’s but new Bridgestone RE01R’s made them the best option I’ve seen for summer shoes in the past six weeks. The wheels are at least in wicked shape, a nice offset and a known stiff and light design even if they are the most cookie cutter shoes I have ever purchased.

Times Two

20120109-162538.jpgAgain. I have rad friends. After a day of watching drifting yesterday, Masaharu felt sorry enough for me that he has donated a car.

Jealous?

Masaharu is a baller. Probably the best driver of thirty yesterday. He balances the fact that his speed makes other drivers crash, by putting out fires and fixing other people’s cars and he’s so enthusiastic about it all it rubs off on everyone.

Just another reason to live in Japan

Mada Mikawa Motorland

January 8th, 2012

20120108-210632.jpgEventful day running backwards at Mikawa with a large group. One well driven R33 Molotov cocktail, a couple of smashed four doors and a posse of Shakotan AE86’s that looked bad ass and made a lot of noise. I admired the driving of only a few… But the disastrous spectacle of others was satisfying as well.

And They All Had At Least 400hp

20120106-163743.jpgEven with limited ability to read Japanese, 500円 worth of books deprecates every English resource online I’ve found to date. Even here though, there is way too much emphasis placed on boost and body kits.

Japan Is Like Camping

January 2nd, 2012

20120103-101616.jpgDespite all the world’s technology you still have to wash dishes by hand.
Without a proper heater or thermostat you are always too hot, or too cold.
Three beers for breakfast is perfectly acceptable.
You always do your best not to use the toilet.
And the anticipation of going is often better than the actual experience of being there.

I’m not actually hating… I’ve decided I could live here pretty easily if I had a house that fit me. Countertops at knee height and door frames at shoulder are totally not cool. I’m certain that if I grew up in Japan my body would have known to stop growing at age 14. For fear of hitting my head, I might never stand upright again.

Magic Wangan

December 27th, 2011

20111228-113029.jpgI don’t get how stuff like this gets built in Japan. Obviously there is a lot I don’t know about engineering. Might be a rad drive in the end. The low road to Mikawa averages maybe 35km/h, and in the event of a quake is probably just as dangerous as the highway when thousands of tonnes of concrete loom overhead.
