At the same time that Ryan was at Namao, Andrew and I were in Red Deer co-driving the AE86 on a tattered parking lot with the CSCC. Confusion about what was happening and when caused us to miss registration for Namao, but it was a good day. An awkward, low speed course really had me struggling with the car for most of it though. Some pretty major bumps didn’t help either. It came down to my final run, with Andrew ahead of me, and a whole string of cones and DNF’s on all my prior runs. I did what I usually do when driving an AE86 under pressure: dropped 1.5 seconds off my fastest raw time, didn’t hit any cones, found the rev-limiter where I hadn’t before… and beat all the guys I wanted to. If I had been driving anything else, I would have hit three cones and missed a shift.
Some more thoughts about my car though?
One. My chopped up and modded exhaust is not cool. Nothing against Paul who made it originally. I did a shitty job fitting it to the new ride height. It’s rock solid, but hangs down too low.
Two. 5 degrees front camber and +90mm front track makes my car look like an ARROW out on course. Not something I ever would have noticed without a co-driver. Not that I really care… but I might try and find clearance for spacers in the back.
Three. I don’t care if I have a small port and cams, this car is really bloody slow. It is entirely possible that my standards have changed after having spent time in nothing but 300hp cars for the past three years, but it is still unbearable. I actually found myself bouncing in my seat on a couple sections of the course as though I was in a kart. A stock large port might not be any faster… but I really doubt it could be much slower and it would be A STOCK LARGE PORT!
I’ll have to get on a dyno sometime this year. If the car makes more than 100whp, I may have to say good-bye to 4AG forever. That makes me a little sad… I sure has hell won’t ever run an SR20. In the meantime, I’ll retain hope that what I have now is thrashed, and that a healthy 4AG could satisfy.

haha my exhaust was awsome!
It was free, and came off some turbo golf. My friend gave it to me and I hacked it.
It was made for super low, sorry.
You should geta crazy 3tc, or not, way too antique.
I’m thinking 3sg before long.
maybee
Paul,
Did you not price out that Beams 3SGE with everything needed and even the 6spd tranny to be nearly equal in price to a built 3TC? Or did I mishear something? Please enlighten.
Thanks
R.
well… if $700 Beams appear then they’d be cheaper than any 3TC. Beams appear in Japan for under 100000 yen from time to time… which still makes them pretty enticing. Canadian inflation sucks though.
Typo: I was mentioning 3SGE from Altezza.
