Past Projects

In the fall of 2001 Ryan and I started assembling and modifying cars together.  All started in different forms, some from scratch, others from near full build requiring only tweaking and tuning.  Nevertheless, all of these cars have been ours… we have a tendency to go through a lot:  lots that never even made mention here, and some that I spent hours writing and thinking about.  It is some form of A.D.D…. really.  In the first few years after we teamed up, neither of us managed to make it through a single season with one car.  They came and went. Mostly it was because we liked to dream, but it was also partly because there was always someone willing to buy.  Cash just looks so good.

Note: These charts are for fun.  Don’t confuse them for us being hard core and bad ass.  Check it out.

SWPull---20psiI told you a few weeks ago that Ryan hit Speedtech's show n' shine and threw his car up on the Dyno there. I also told you what numbers he made: here is the proof. The above pull was the last one... made with 20 pounds of boost. [...] And this was 18pounds if I remember correctly. At the time boost made was crystal clear... but now it's all hazy. [...]

Oh yeah…

So… I grabbed a set of vintage Recaro LS seats on the weekend. They don’t have “gradation” fabric… of course. How lucky do you think I am? They are all black though, which is probably the next best thing. Condition is probably 7.5/10. Fabric and foam appear pretty good… but the headrests are somewhat FUBARed. They are bottom mount, which […]

Aerotex ChiliAerotex Brown Does anyone else actually feel the same way as I do about Zenkei red seats? I hunted for a while trying to find a suitable replacement fabric. DeGreeve Auto Upholstery in Calgary managed to find me something good though. I should note... that auto upholstery places are the places to hit. Forget Fabric land or your grandma's upholstery store... they leave you feeling empty inside [...]

I hate to love the stock AE86 seats.  But I do.  Particularly red zenkei seats.  I’m not entirely sure where this love came from, but it is definitely a recent thing.  There was definitely a time when I thought the red interior that came in early AE86’s was gross and weird.  I remember when I wanted to look for a […]

Yellow on PurposeAs I said, the ZJ left us stranded on Saturday night. Last winter, on the coldest of days I had observed a charging problem. It seemed the alternator couldn't keep up with the heater, and defrost, and tunes and the like. It never left us anywhere, but when it gone down to -30 or so I was definitely weary. In the summer... it wasn't really something that I was keeping an eye on. I guess I knew that I had to do something about it before winter hit again, but it turns out I wouldn't get that far. And so... since ultimately I like our ZJ, I fixed it right.

AW11 Skirts1. I picked up AE92 skirts like 5 years ago. They suck. Trimming around your door looks wrong, and they are SHALLOW. 2. AE86 skirts are $$. 3. AW11 skirts aren't that easy to come by, but they are a lot more likely to run into than AE86 stuff, and they are cheap. That is what's pictured here. I'm not entirely sold though. Painting them black would probably help me decide. .

I know AW11 sideskirts when I see one, and that is not the complete AW11 skirt, is it? Those are two front ends, frankensteined together, right? I know this because AW11 skirts have the very unique (and easily breakable) rear quarter piece that weighs tonnes.
