Connecting with the Past for the Future – F 2020

Well it already was… but I’m working extra hard recently to make sure this is not a place where I do nothing except for bitch and scream. The incredible year of driving, racing, and playing that I had lined up went completely to shit in March. Since that time I’ve been scrounging, grinding… and connecting with people who do cars for love, not money. Go figure.

And as my garage empties out (the JCE10 is gone – to a good home and then another) and my savings evaporate, I’ve found opportunities to reconnect with the things and the people that helped me take my car life pro.

(1) Wheels. Kyusha Shoes is back. My old wheel database had been neglected for the last five years, but I am back to nerding out on wheels. The original database is gone, but a new SEO conquering and searchable database is up and growing fast. There are literally tens of thousands of wheels to add. The site currently gets 1000+ visitors daily. That’s been growing steadily despite my recent neglect. I’d love to make this my life’s work. It would be nice to find a way to monetize it… but I’m just loving researching, cataloging, and connecting with other wheel fans around the globe.

(2) 2GR Exige. Yah, I might have time to actually finish this project after it’s GT3 Spec Evora 2GR was delivered with more issues than anything “new” should ever have. This is a build that was started more than five years ago, and never detailed here. I love Lotus engineering and construction, but blending big dreams with a constrictive ruleset and dubious suppliers has been a challenge.

(3) SW11. Ryan (the R part) has become a recognized solo driver, running various MR Porshe’s to top-ranking SCCA finishes, but he still has roots in old Toyota’s. I’ve enjoyed the chance to spend some time with him again, and tweak the ST205 3SGTE powered AW11 of his that lived with me in previous years. The car is being prepared to run hard laps at the various tracks within 1000km of our home in Calgary… although it is still certainly not the fastest car in Ryan’s fleet.

So if it wasn’t clear already, my professional car life is dead. That’s not the worst thing ever… assuming that I’m not yet dead with it.
