With pricing released and pre-orders open on the 2017 BRZ as of yesterday in the USA, I am asking myself more and more seriously, “Am I going to trade in my 2015 FRS for a new model?”
In the USA, the top model BRZ limited increases in price by less than $400. The performance package (only available on the Limited and super boy racer Series Yellow) includes another half a J of wheel, twelve brembo pistons and German dampers and adds only $1195. So it’s quite likely, that if you could afford a BRZ before, you can afford the new one with the tricks that excite.
On the FRS… ahhh errr… 86 (damn that sounds good), it’s still a question whether or not the performance package parts will be available at all. In Japan, the 2017 86 has already dropped, but there are no signs of the new brakes or shocks. The top model GT Limited still shows the same boring and ugly two piece calipers behind newly designed, but still 7J wheels. There is concern. The Japanese BRZ GT… proudly shows big red calipers.
Will I need to wear the badge of Pleiades to get the new hachiroku I want? Would that even be a hachiroku? Am I destined to never own a car that actually carries the 86 name?
You understand why I can’t sleep at night anymore…
