Q's New Era Hachiroku Ryan's SW11

Past Projects

In the fall of 2001 Ryan and I started assembling and modifying cars together.  All started in different forms, some from scratch, others from near full build requiring only tweaking and tuning.  Nevertheless, all of these cars have been ours… we have a tendency to go through a lot:  lots that never even made mention here, and some that I spent hours writing and thinking about.  It is some form of A.D.D…. really.  In the first few years after we teamed up, neither of us managed to make it through a single season with one car.  They came and went. Mostly it was because we liked to dream, but it was also partly because there was always someone willing to buy.  Cash just looks so good.

Note: These charts are for fun.  Don’t confuse them for us being hard core and bad ass.  Check it out.

懐かしい気持ち。 Still working on moving on. Some lessons learned: Be a man. Be like a truck. Carry things. Get shit kicked. Be ugly… but comfortable and dependable. Never sell that truck. Sometimes life is easy enough for sports cars… but then… This 22RTE truck was mine at a time between marriage and adult money. It was ragged and hacked, drank […]

Final Scenes – II

… Time to reminisce. By modest standards, I’ve owned some really good cars. Or at the very least… I’ve formed some really great relationships with cars that I’ve owned. For the last two decades, AE86 has always been front of mind. Raw, wrench friendly, and personal, I still dream of AE86 often. The AE86 however, is no longer a car […]

It’s Winter…

2

Yup, it’s still winter. Two cars sit idle through this mess… and there are multiple reasons. Low down cars on stiff springs suck everyday. Hacked up, wing wearing 80’s cars are embarrassing, but don’t even run anways. Brand new cars with squeaky clean assholes like to stay that way. These are all excuses for things we sometimes don’t want to […]

New Era of Old

I am slow to get things done. Things happen pretty fast in my mind – but am much slower getting them on paper, let alone tangible incarnations. The WRX has been sitting since May, and nice weather isn’t the real reason. I am reluctant to make a second attempt at a JDM motor, because this time around the turbo & […]

Shi no Senkoku

Either I have a really cool neighbor, or my neighbor has a really cool friend. I was able to stop and take a terrible picture of this car the second time that I saw it on my block. I remember hearing stories about golden valve covers and the technicians engraving their names on the crankshaft after hand balancing. Hipster Alert! […]

Control capacity. I think a lot of people really don’t get it, but raw speed does not interest me much at all. Formula 1? I’m more interested in vintage touring cars. Downforce equipped super car on R comps? Nah I’d rather a 150hp lightweight on skinny street tires. 4WD 3 LSD rally car light on ice? A RWD boat seems […]
