At the same time that Ryan was at Namao, Andrew and I were in Red Deer co-driving the AE86 on a tattered parking lot with the CSCC. Confusion about what was happening and when caused us to miss registration for Namao, but it was a good day.   An awkward, low speed course really had me struggling with the car […]

A Parking Lot

On Saturday, Ryan pulled the SW11 up to Edmonton for an ASA auto-x at Namao air base.  This isn’t a venue I’ve ever been able to drive.  I guess the three hour drive has been a deterrent, but in addition to that a background check is required in order to get security clearance to visit the base.  I feel like […]

An Airport

You’re a stud.  It’s true you got mushed out at the end… but vs Mr. Foust and Senior Millen?  No embarassement. I gotta say… after a long, hot Saturday, it was pretty sweet to put my feet up after dinner and watch the 2010 Toyota Celebrity Race.  I hate that all the cars are Scion’s.  Toyota needs to get it’s […]

Five and a half degrees negative camber.  Did I do it on purpose?  No, that’s actually as positive as my adjustments allow me, with the parts I chose.  Is it fast?  Maybe not.  My braking sure suffers, but surprisingly, it does seem to make good use of the tires in corners.  Soft, narrow, bubbly tires sure help that happen though.  […]

attribute2defineAccel. - I was thinking straight up in terms of 0-100km/h. Four seconds at the top. Power - just peak hp, I didn't think about torque or area under the curve at all. Lightness - the inverse of weight. 900kg at the top. Roadholding - sustainable lateral acceleration. I'm not saying I've measured this for all cars. We have data on some and experience fills in the holes. Balance - defined as how well the car reacts to drive input. Throttle response, cornering prowess and overall drivability when it matters. Amenities - luxuries and comforts. How much do you want to take this car on a long road trip with your whiny girlfriend? Fit/Finish - full marks would be equivalent to new condition. Offroad - a few of our vehicles see offroad use, but more than that, I thought it would be an interesting way to show how some of our "sports" cars have strayed from practicality. Zero means the car is practically banned from all but glassy smooth asphalt. Durability - call it the general lack of concern that something is going to break.

As much as I hate driving my car around on the streets, it is inconceivable how much I love it through pylons. I was not fast, but the car is pretty damned close to perfect.  I could really spend a lot of time dissecting it, and I will…  later.  (ha)  This is just a tease and exclamation of relief.  The […]
