Various Contemplations…
Winter is here in full now… it’s seldom above freezing, we go skating, play cards, watch movies, and talk about playing cards. I want a place to drive in a competitive environment… rally-x is it, or auto-x as the CSCC so inappropriately calls it. Problem is… my AE92 GTS is not the right car for me at all. I’m too tall. Furthermore, the car has some tired old shocks, that just don’t work for fast driving, and it really lacks any steering feel. I don’t like driving it, I don’t want to put anymore money into it. Go away.
So I’m car shopping. I think about various things. Obviously this has to be a car that I can drive 365 days a year. No… not only that. It should be a car that I WANT to drive 365 days a year. I’ve looked at cars like ST185 Celica, Pulsar GTi-R… not local purchases, but instead rhd imports through Christian at Importconcern. With patience such cars, can be had in all sorts of conditions and states of tune for prices that are much more than competitive with domestically available cars.
Also on the list… is some CHEAP stuff. Something… like every other car I’ve ever purchased. Something that can’t depreciate. Something that can be found in any given junk yard on any given sunday. Something I can beat the shit out of with out worry. Since I already have many thousands of dollars of debt, this is probably the smartest choice… but we’ll see what happens.
And… if the 92 isn’t going to be driven… then what? Then maybe we forget about the GZE long block we have lying around, and through the highcomp motor in the AE86 for turbocharging. This certainly isn’t the best solution for ultimate power, but certainly it is for off-boost performance and drivability on track. If you have thoughts I’d be happy to hear them…
