Fifteen degrees outside today… it smells like summer. We’ve been gearing up hard over the past few weeks for the upcoming Angle Factory season. Helping accommodate all that planning: I’ve been enjoying a brief intermission from work after things dried up completely at my winter job. Furthermore, my girlfriend, who I happily lend quite a bit of my time (despite what she thinks), has returned home to Taiwan for two months to visit friends and family. On top of these things… I’ve also decided to stop playing cards, which is something I’ve been trying to make good money at for the past year or so, but never really succeeded.
As a result… my life has been very simple lately, with pretty much no distraction from car life. Lately I eat and sleep drifting. I watch Option video’s (私は日本人が成っている), I visit drifting forums, I go visit local drifters at work… and I VISIT our freaking ハチロク sitting in a billion pieces and unable to move anywhere… even if I push it. The summer weather is just to much today. I want to drive and nothing more.
I reflect a little about why we embarked on this project… for myself, a large part of it was the feeling that I’d reached the limit of what a stock powered 86 could do. At the auto-x we always posted times I was proud of, but we occasionally found ourselves behind various cars with a lot more power. In drifting, I found myself unable to hold through increasing radius corners and even worse, often having enough juice to get up to a suitable speed before initiating. So… turbo makes sense right? I dunno… right now I wonder about all the things I still have to learn.
My love for 86 doesn’t fade, but I wonder if this wouldn’t be a lot easier in something else. Something else like…
Maybe that’s enough whining. I did put seam sealer and primer over our stitch welds the other day. The primer looks like shit, and I didn’t want to take any pictures (not that the seam sealer looks any better). I realize that my biggest dilemma with this project is all the running around. Drive the engine to the machine shop, drive to the store and pick up paint, drive to a different store to get a fastener, a different store for gaskets and on and freaking on.
Since I could go for hours… I’ll just leave it there. Look for me in a pre-built Nissan this year.
