Boosterless Brakes Continued

Having a booster masks how much the bulkhead actually flexes when you put real pressure on the brake pedal.  Without a booster every stop takes as much leg work as any stop would with a booster equipped, and given that, you really notice how much the bulkhead flexes and the master cylinder twists.  It can be gross.  So I built this.  My growing fabrication experience, and the new non-pristine attitude of my car, means I can really blast out stuff like this.

Your looking at like 15minutes worth of work, which I think is admirable.  I made tow hooks today too… but that’s another post.

And that’s how it sits.  Now… pedal feel is pretty much unbelievable.  People who drive modern cars every day cannot comprehend or imagine.  It’s a rock.  Pushing my brake pedal is like pushing the earth.  It doesn’t move, but the car does slow faster if you push harder.  This has taken some getting used to, and switching between the AE86 and the big diesel I drive for work is somewhat difficult.  Furthermore, it has taken some time to get the bias adjusted right.  It’s a fun thing to get to play with, but I probably won’t get it perfect until some real seat time is had.
