Competition 2

Ryan has left town with the SW11 in tow, and is headed for the Wendover Prosolo in Utah.  He’ll be up against Randy Chase and his SSM SW20.  If you don’t know Randy Chase… he’s kind of a big deal in the solo world… or at least he used to be.

The data he can display in this video is at least… a big deal.  Pretty hot.  Maybe sad for you guys: I’m pretty hard into auto-x right now.

Did you know the AE86 is back and legal again in FSP, after Taka Aono killed everyone back in 2002?  That class is currently dominated by BMW 2002’s and EG Civic’s with a couple other oddball cars scattered throughout.  I wonder…

It would actually require a pretty significant de-tune to get me legal… but it would add a considerable amount of meaning and value to something that currently exists without any real reason.  It’s that or Street Mod with Ryan… but SM just doesn’t seem pure enough to me.

Sometimes a “de-tune” is not necessarily a bad thing. The Street Modified class is a super expensive class for a sport that is supposedly grassroots, in my opinion. FSP however, is more inline to that grassroots spirit, I mean just look at the cars in that class… AE86, early VW Golfs, EF/EG Civics, BMW 2002 etc…

I really hope Ryan does well in this NT.

Part of motorsports to me is preparing your car to a specific rule set. SM is quite open… which of course is why cost can quickly get out of hand. But more than that, SM cars lack creativity. Everyone’s cars end up being prepared to go fast via the regular methods. “Lower” classes like STS for example which bans LSD’s, or SP which bans RCA’s demand ingenuity in set up and driving. That is interesting to me… even if it isn’t going to earn any FTD’s

It’s supposedly raining today in Utah. that likely won’t be good for Ryan.
