There has been little progress. The car remains in the exact position it was as of our last entry. The GZE sits up on a stand awaiting assembly… it’s all quite… bad. How many months do we have left? When will it get soo cold that our propane heater will accomplish nothing and make QuickR Garage inhabitable? Will we ever get anything done?
Or will we just keep collecting parts? We’ve finally found our turbo. It’s a very nice looking IHI RHB5 from a Subaru XT. If I knew enough, I’d tell you all about it… but I don’t know much. I know… it’s a little smaller physically than a T25 with an internal wastegate that should open at 6psi. Although I’d never heard of IHI before this turbocharging decision, I’ve now found that they’re quite popular for the 1.6L class of motors. I’m secure in the affirmations I’ve received from friends and other internet brethren that this turbo will meet our needs for quick spool at max boost.
Furthermore, we’ve had a simple log manifold made and it should be currently en route, hopefully arriving within the next couple weeks. Also coming in, is our MSNS ECU and adapter harness from Gary (aka. DistortionWarrior at Club4ag). We’re still waiting on our clutch from Max at IllegalGarage.
The main point of this entry is… we need to get our asses moving. Get the motor together. Get our bracing and welding done in the engine bay, so that when everything arrives we can plop it all in and plan for downpipe, intercooler and all the other mechanical stuff that comes with turbocharging.
We are perhaps finding it difficult to become motivated because of the cars soon to be… pure track nature. On top of that, it has become a serious question whether there will even be a place next year to drive this car, should we even manage to complete it. The cancellation of the Westerner lot, and the recent “closure” of Race City have left all of us in Calgary, with solo and drift interest, questioning whether or not there will be anything for us next year at all. Scarey.
As a result, I’m thinking more about other things lately… like basketball, a girlfriend, and the supposed meaning that life claims from time to time. I watch BM or HV or InitialD and think about how to become a better driver… but I don’t go down to the garage and wrench.
