I browsed through some of my many AE86 magazines last night… (we’re back at -20 and snow) Not because I was really interested in looking at AE86’s, but because I was thinking about how to make more power for the AW11.
Ideas for more power… are pretty much the same as always… carbs, 20v, GZE… I don’t want a turbo in this car. The only power up I’ve ever done on an AE86 was simple bolt on stuff. Definitely my favorite thing about the 4AG is aesthetics… it sounds awesome, and it can look so nice and clean and vintage.
Anyways… my AE86 magazines made me realize something… and I think I always knew this… but it was a big reminder…
AE86 looks DAMN GOOD. Stock. Low and hard. Crazy body claddings. No bumpers. It always looks good.
AW11… nope.
So on this snow day… I bring to you… the best looking AW11’s I have seen. Note… I really want MR2 Hyper Rev’s for some more eye-candy. Note 2: None of these cars appeals to me as much as a stock (yes I mean stock) zenkei AE86 hatch sitting on pizza cutters.
AW11 is OTB.
AND FWIW I stole all these pictures sometime in the last ten years. I may have just bought an AW11, but I’ve been trying to admire them for a long time.
Plain… but clean. AW11s pretty much can’t have a rear spoiler, or they look too much like a wannabe sports car. But wait… what’s that? You say it is a sports car? Ha… yah right. Twenty years ago it was, but now it’s vintage… and it doesn’t do well trying to look… FAST. Your sister’s Cobalt can destroy you. No big spoilers…
Otherwise stock… if it had nice wheels instead of Kal Tire specials… it’d be better… but… still not bad.
Stock again… but kouki. Paint looks really nice in the picture. Again… I don’t like the wheels much…They look too big. Ditch the spoiler again… and… maybe it could be a good looking car.
Getting better… but what??? All he’s done is paint/tint stock parts different colors. Looks a little more historic. Somehow the bumpers don’t look so ugly in two different colors either.
If this car is as fast as it looks… it’s pretty cool. Pretty much everything has been changed: skirts, bumpers, mirrors… rear spoiler. This is the only AW11 I could find that I thought looked good with lots of aftermarket parts. But… I don’t want to drive it.
Yeah… this is my style. I know what the front bumper is… but do you? It’s looks pretty nice. Wheels fit… no spoiler. I guess maybe… I don’t like the cut out for the lights… but this is definitely one of my favorites.
It looks a lot more blocky than it does angular, which is something I really don’t like about the AW. This can’t be me though either. Too low… too drifter like.
This is my favorite AW11 ever, and it’d be the easiest to duplicate: no skirts, stock bumpers, no spoiler, nice fitting wheels, and a good ride height. I like the skinnies in front, and I wonder if black paint does a lot to hide the cars plain/boring body lines.
Don’t think I’m saying my car will be a better looking car than these… cause it won’t. I hate body work, and I’m poor… These are the pictures that keep me going though… If I looked to 99.9% of AW11’s for motivation, I would have hucked my car in the beginning and gone back to AE86. Seriously…
不細工だよ。
