Subaru participated in F1? I never knew. Unlike most boxer engines (which I find pretty hard to look at), this one is serious eye candy. Yeow. With a displacement of 3500cc, apparently it’s good for 650hp – not good enough to be competitive in 1990… but maybe still the greatest naturally aspirated, 180 degree engine ever.
Lucky for me… I found one FOR SALE. Never mind my plans for an EG33 powered GDA – This will be just as good.
Couldn’t find recording of that engine’s exact sound on YouTube.
But found Ferrari 312T with Flat12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7pt49VcGYE
Oops! Apparently, that sound is faked!!
This is what a Flat 12 sounded like:

Bottomline, you should totally do it.
Ha. I wonder how big it is actually. 12 cylinders, but equal displacement to pedestrian Subaru 6 cylinders. If it’s a square design and revs to 12000rpm, then each of those throttles is probably 45ish mm diameter.
45×6 = 270mm. 270mm= 10.7″. Lol. Where’d I hang my tape measure? Yah I’m simplifying it, but I bet it’s barely any bigger than an EG33 at all. Maybe a bit longer, but even if it’s under-square (which it’s not) it’s almost certainly narrower.
