When it comes to turning wrenches, I swing hammers and throw F-bombs only when I’m lying under the car fighting seized bolts and wrestling with heavy components. Put my car on a well lit bench that I can sit beside, and you can walk my Grandma out there to sit beside me and do her word find puzzles. I’ll even turn off the Eurobeats and switch it to the CBC.
The sight of that open differential though… that creates a bit of stress and anxiety. Nevertheless, the new helical unit should easily slide in place before Grandma locates and circles “superannuated.” She’d better not be too far behind though, because if she is still present when the trans is back together and I’m bench pressing it under the car there is no way I’m getting an inheritance.
Are you staying with the stock center diff for now? Or are you going to put in one of the STi gravel 20kg ones while it’s open?
I’ll stick with the stock one for now. I think the 20kg unit would be great for a real rally stuff, but a lot of what I enjoy doing is so low speed that I think it would cause excessive understeer. What I really want is an early DCCD transfer case to bolt onto the back of this transmission, and an aftermarket controller for it.
I wasn’t diligent enough with my shopping though…
