There always seem to be details to look after before I get any car on the road after purchase. I’m finally there, and on the road full time… not that everything is perfect. Since purchase, my tweaks have been: UHMW undertray, UHMW mudflaps, boost DOWN (18PSI peak seemed crazy), studded winter rubber, handoru and knobs swapped from my AE86, more aggressive alignment and a free stereo.
My impressions so far are: the car is fast in a straight line, handles horrible, feels horrible, and chugs gasoline. I’m not that happy about it.
I’ll have to fit a wideband to help me figure out why it’s such a pig on gas, and how much boost it can actually handle. Feel of the car could probably be dramatically improved with some new bushings and maybe a shift lever adjustment. Handling? I gotta start by putting the battery in the back, and looking for some other means of shedding weight. The car scaled at 1440kg with a full tank of gas, which seems really fat in KG, but that is 3200lbs which is decent enough considering all that the car is trying to be. There is a LOT of clutter under the hood, but I can’t think of too much that I could remove without compromising comfort. I’ll probably just put some custom springs on, probably with a relatively aggressive rear rate, and a little less front ride height to increase roll axis slope and static camber.
