Road Trip 3

Back in town.

I’ve learned a little more love for my ZJ… and a lot more hate for Crackheads.

Lastnight windows were smashed, cords ripped out of dashes, luggage rummaged… and our Camcorder and Ipod stolen. So much for all the pictures I had to share. Kamloops is seriously a dump town. Shops boarded up, gigantic chain restraunts staffed with top of the line High School drop-outs and filled with only 2 patrons… at 7pm on a Monday night. Furthermore… Hotel managers who neglect to inform customers that their parking lot gets hit almost nightly this time of year. Shouldn’t something be done about that?

And how… can any cop be optomistic about getting my stuff back? WTF. Seems to me like the best they could achieve is a few traffic tickets… and maybe an arrest for homicide after I’ve found the assholes who took a bunch of shit they’ll never be able to hack into a usable condition, and then turned myself in.

The ZJ was great though.

How about 14L/100km on my trip? Almost 3400km in total travelled… and not really a hickup… except for a minor issue with the radio that was fixed with a couple tiny screwdrivers… and then nullified by the bandits.

Cruised well… passed well. Went off the highway and down to untravelled beaches and river beds (albeit sometimes with fear). Kind of a shame really… because we found some stunning places. New driving lamps worked awesome. Packed it right full of Speedcats and weird Japanese snacks (don’t bother ever mounting your spare on the roof using straps fwiw).

The smashed window definitely has me thinking about some interesting things though… and an interesting run in with the Five-0 as well. I feel like an urban expidition vehicle doesn’t really need to be that different from a real off road one. Although compromises must be made in terms of performance.

I imagine 33’s, real bumpers, bars on windows and some James Bond junk. Don’t touch my stuff.

    bummer dude.

get a rusty 86 with doors that dont lock, and nobody will touch your stuff. Travelled cross-country to Ontario, 4 times, and im still theft free…

I dunno. When I lived in Hillhurst I always left my stuff unlocked and empty. Crackheads still smashed my window on two occasions, just assuming I’d pushed the button down.

It’s my own fault for forgetting our new camera in the center console… we’ve never cared enough about our ipod to take it out of the vehicle. It always got stashed in the ash-tray. But the fact that they stole the empty MOUNT and power cord for our Garmin Nav unit pisses me off so fucking much. It’s just malicious.

Since I’m basically a bum anyways… I actually consider that it might be worth my time to head back to that shit hole to bait and bitch slap.
