Been seriously shopping and bidding for my all weather monster. No luck yet…
It’s a major struggle for me not to have cool wheels this time of the year. There’s just something about this weather and mood that makes me want to get up at 4am and go drive. Not fitting for a Jeep Cherokee. Cruised up to Drumheller last weekend with the wife and friends and found some amazing roads that made me really wish I had an RNN14 or CD9A or something…
…Some all weather monster.
Right now… it’s really hard to argue with 4wd, and turbo. Hard to argue with a car that can eat up most anything on the road even 15 years later…
But part of me still longs for something else… 86
…and I’m not really sure why. Definitely, part of it is financial. Not that the other options are cheaper… but they’re cheaper in the short term. There’s also something… that just isn’t enduring and timeless about cars such as the RNN14 and CD9A…
Maybe… it’s just that they are too technically intimidating: rare transmissions and high zoot drive-line parts and all. And maybe it’s also that they’re constantly been updated and just seems sooo much more undesirable than their newer models. Evo 1? Why… Evo 3 is so much more appealing and only 2 years newer… and then there is 4 and 6 and … NINE and how ever many more will come in the years of my ownership.
I look to the past and wonder…
If 0-100 in ten seconds is so slow. If I really can’t throw all my gear in the back of an ハチロク, and disappear into the winter mountains for a month with my beautiful girl.
AE86 will live forever. Restoration friendly… a solid legend… and it’s already the slowest car on the road…. it’s enthusiasm has nothing to do with numbers…
But how can I argue… right now… with such elements?
