This 2014 WRX Concept dropped on the web this week, and I had a couple observations. My take that it’s as ugly has little meaning since most others seem to think it’s the best looking Subaru ever. It just looks like a chunky blue blob with nice wheels to me. Like any WRX, it’s gone way over the top trying to make a simple shape appear sporty. What I question though… is whether Subaru’s AWD system has evolved? or whether they’ve learned new crumple zone technology from distant galaxies. Given Subaru’s typical AWD layout, it seems to me that the radiator must also be functioning as bumper. If a GR STI had such a small front overhang the timing gears would be the grill.
Most notably though, this behemoth is certainly not the car with which they will rejoin the WRC. It’s also not the home of the new FB16T engine, and that leaves me eagerly asking, “Where is its little brother?”
