When Your Car Life Is A Fantasy 2

Balls I want an AE86, and an SA22, and an S30 and…

As a consequence of the internet and specifically BaT (aka Bring a Trailer), my car life feels horrifically mundane. Automotive dreams grow further and further away from reality. Only two years ago, I had to work hard to find one of my dream cars for sale. Now, there is a new one available for purchase every day. My bank account never felt so small.

If only there was some way I could experience all these cars without the pain and hassle (and expense!?!?!) of ownership… Hmmm…

I’ve truly lost all desire to operate angle grinders, hunt for parts, and battle the wife about my lack of long-term commitment to time and money spent on steel toys.

At present, our RAV4 meets my day-to-day needs about as well as anything can… but gawd do I ever envy the guy squeezed into the 240Z that I pass on Crowchild Trail everyday while travelling to the office.

Even when I’m in the FR-S, I envy him just the same.

The grass is always greener. It’s not about performance. It’s the feels.

Ouch. I feel so called out.

What I’ve been doing lately is reading about the racing regulations of a class in a racing league I’ll probably never get to participate in. I just end up fantasizing all day along the lines of “…I know what’ll be a cool car to build for that!”

A good read, this thing here

“Speak to classic car owners and you’ll hear words like ‘character,’ ‘endearing,’ and ‘charm.’ Delve a bit deeper and you’ll also hear phrases such as ‘running issues,’ ‘off the road,’ and ‘I hope it gets me home.’ For all of the fun and quaintness that comes from motoring in a classic car, and for all of their period charm, mechanical nature, timeless styling and often gorgeous looks, there’s always that niggle thought in the back of your mind that something is about to go wrong.”
