AF Crab Migration

Crab Migration – AngleFactory event 1 was yesterday. With my duties as organizer, I didn’t get to drive much. In fact I only did two laps during the event, and only to show a new comer the course (albiet very poorly). Running on the road course, in third gear, I have a gigantic appreciation for the pro’s. With speed like that, it’s a whole other game. I’ve actually come away from yesterday quite discouraged, with many regrets about certain aspects of the car, and my lack of time behind the wheel.

Before people showed up, I did about 30 minutes of driving with breaks in between to cool things down.

I’ve “drifted” on the road course before (3 years ago) in a stock AE86 with LSD. That experience was much more enjoyable and successful. Yesterday I found myself very hesitant to turn in hard, and without the stones to keep my foot down, or to bang the clutch to keep things going. Not once did I link two corners together, and only once did I make it from entrance to exit of a third gear sweeper. My favorite corner had about a 130km/h entry with a down shift and mid second gear exit. Here… somehow, I found balls and clutch kicked in third gear to enter and hold a long slide with the ebrake. I got this maybe 3 out of 12 times… not very successful, but sooo satisfying. On my demo run during the event time, I put it deep in grass near a very dangerous ditch when I didn’t turn in hard enough (see pic courtesy photbolic.com). I did get it half well once… before I lost grip of the wheel mid corner and couldn’t wind back fast enough… driving off the outside. Quite embarassing.

Going off... thanks Wei

Certainly, the powersteering will go back on. On another note, my rear end, despite recent adjustment, still screams and I need to where ear plugs when cruising around. That must be fixed.

Other guys drove quite well. There is lots of skill coming up, and certainly some guys with big balls. I’m not sure about myself…
