CAC 2005

Just back from 2005 CAC. Haven’t been soloing at all this year so it was a refreshing change. The drifting thing has been an exciting challenge and I am really enjoying the learning experience. The one thing missing from it though is the competitive aspect, something I crave. I’m sure it will come it time as the scene develops in our area but for now, autocross continues to fulfill my need for competition.

This years CAC had a different feel from the 2003 event…to me at least. The atmosphere was more casual and less cut-throat then the last. I was co-driving a 95 Porche Carrerra 2 (thanks Peter!) and it was both extremely fun and extremely scary. Pitted against both the car owner and fellow Dorikaze member, Dennis beck in a fast SW20 Turbo, I secured a 0.8sec lead after the first days competition. I was very pleased with my driving that day and felt the course was a perfect match for me first time in a Porsche.

Second day I gave it all away with a combination of poor mental preparedness and a trickier course for me to figure out in the rear heavy and high HP car. Coned runs and a near spin blew my near 1sec lead and I was demoted to second by a 0.15sec over the two days. Congrats to Dennis for winning first place ASS in Canada, 2005.
