Zenkei 2 Door

Oops. The car that twice I said I would never get rid of is gone. The final explanation of that is that sometimes ones appetite is bigger than one’s stomach. This car simply got too hard for me, and it was all my own doing. If I had more money it would have stayed in storage forever, probably tuned even harder and driven any less.

And I say driven even less, but that’s probably impossible. In the last few years of it’s time with me I only found a couple opportunities to take this car on a closed course and really enjoy it. It was amazing there, but an embarrassment and pain in the ass on the street. I loved it dearly, but don’t miss it at all now that it’s gone… especially when I see it rolling hard around town all glassed and vinyled up.

First event of the season (a Test n’ Tune) was this past weekend. In the week before I’ve had the whole diff apart on the floor and the passenger front brakes apart to change a wheel stud. With my current lack of trust in the car, it was a white nuckled 130km road trip. No radio and the constant chirping […]

Spring Debut – GZ20 and Zenkei Coupe

It’s time. My ’86 has been mostly reassembled and only awaits a wheel alignment and insurance. Most of what I had planned over the winter never happened. What else is new. I have however, spent the last week ripping the suspension apart to replace bushings and balljoints. Very good. I’ve also removed the EGR completely, replacing the crushed piping with […]

Running angle through the slalomn [...]amongst all this I took the 86 out one more time yesterday to a surprise solo event at Race City Speedway. I really only have a pair of r-compounds left, so I ran on my dead drift wheels and tires. Very loose set up. Of the twenty some cars out, I got dusted by an S2k, STi, and 911 not too disappointing. I'd forgotten what it was like to play on the road course. The speed is incredible. Enough to make me wonder what the excitement of drifting really is. Entering turn 6 in fourth gear, braking late, downshifting and turning in... this was real fun. I guess what it comes down to is that I just love driving, and I'll do whatever I can. It was definitely nice to have a clock again, and to have some big boys remind me of a great challenge [...]

Vertically Challenged Hillclimb

The season is done. There is nothing left, and that’s somewhat of a relief. Now I can concentrate on things like graduating, and finding a job for next year. Sept. 30 marked the last of the beyond drift events this year. Ten cars turned out, including a couple of RHD S13’s from Edmonton. The course was a bunch of challenging […]

Winter Plans 2004

Look at those TINY Wheels... even if they are MKII'sThe season winds down. There is now one solo2 event left, and the four drifting events in September. I'm actually looking forward to the seasons end so that I can park the 86, and start the work I have planned for the winter. What work is that? I won't say... these things have a tendency to not happen on schedule. [...]
