Nandemo. Spaced out wife just says, “whatever.”

I have recently been viciously debating the merits of keeping my FR-S stock (or at least street class legal).  Parts have been purchased.  Sleep has been lost.  Friendships have been strained while I, as usual, renege on my promises. Sarcasm? The truth is that the last two years of car life has been blissful… except for the absence of raining […]

The Simplest Competition Car

Either I have a really cool neighbor, or my neighbor has a really cool friend. I was able to stop and take a terrible picture of this car the second time that I saw it on my block. I remember hearing stories about golden valve covers and the technicians engraving their names on the crankshaft after hand balancing. Hipster Alert! […]

I recently discovered THIS document about the updated BRZ, and am finding it more and more difficult to imagine myself NOT trading the current car in for a new model.  Yes we’ve all heard about 5 more horsepower and bigger brakes… but this document describes a whole lot more than that, and makes a good argument for real meaningful improvements that […]

A Closer Look – Kouki ZC6

I can do this without being hateful or argumentative… but because you are my brother, I’m going to tell you like I see it. If you are the common car enthusiast, you might be the greatest enemy that real hardcore motorsports enthusiasts and participants have. This is partly because we don’t give a crap how fast you can take a highway offramp […]

Flashback – 2009.  Remember when I formed sheet metal to brace and stitch welded a whole car? What was I thinking? In regards to writing, I’ve thought for a while, that creative power and motivation is something that only dwindles with age.  I’ve now decided that this also applies to anything creative or expressive.  Commitments of age and maturity are a […]

When Modifications Were Fun

I’ve been dreading this day for a year and a half now.  What would the next FR-S look like? Would it have boost or more displacement? Would it have lightweight body panels? Would it have a look I love? Would it cost me a lot of money just because it was something I would have to have? At this point… […]

I don’t like the new front end, tbh. I’m not sure why. Probably the single expansive grille. I tend to like cars that have the potential brake ducts separate.

Just make yours functional brake ducts (if you haven’t already), rebadge it Toyota and all will be well.

    Ok, I looked again.
I guess there still are brake duct-ish fakes on this new one. But did they relocate them higher and farther out? Because it really didn’t register as ducts on first glance, more like canards.

They are higher and even slightly more outboard. My initial reaction to the new look was that I liked it, but the more I look at it, the less I like it. The sagging center area of the front bumper reminds me of…

But I like the new tail lights and wheels (although that is almost totally irrelevant). Much of the FT86 community is up in arms about the new model having buttons on the steering wheel. In all honesty, I’ve found it pretty annoying having NOTHING on my car. Especially when volume control is on an annoying touch screen.
