Levers and Welders 2

turbo-and-manifoldRecently, I imagine that this is all going to bolt together nicely, make good power, and be totally drivable right from first start up.  Certainly, all this research and planning will add up to something right?  And I now completely understand why I’ve had these same parts on my shelf twice in the past, and never gotten around to installing them: a welder.  It practically pays for itself EVERYDAY that I spend time in the garage.  Like yesterday, when I carefully cut the wastegate (I’m talking the actual flapping door and hinge) assembly off a seized T25, and then tacked it back in place on a good turbo that had previously been sealed for use with an external unit.  And then after the non-seized turbo was clocked correctly I made a new bracket to hold the actuator at it’s original orientation.

These are the little details of installing a turbo on an AE86 (without any money) that absolutely require welding.  Never mind modifying the oil pan and building a downpipe etc.

I am excited about my car, and the fact that it will very easily be together in the next month.  And if it does actually blow up on the first hard drive… I’ll survive.  Since I’m a MONKEY again now, it’s not like I’ll actually have time to really drive it that much anyways… especially with another little monkey due in August.
