Prison of Winter 1

Mid April, a week past Easter, snow falls and ice continues to form outside. It is well below zero, and while I would much prefer to be attacking projects outdoors, or in the barn, I find myself instead hiding inside.

Generally, by now the toy car would have scrubbed in new rubber. Instead, that rubber sits in a less used part of the house, waiting for friendly temperatures.

The fact that it has been there now for more than a week without comment from kids or wife, is a sure sign that I am living a wondrous car life.

While I haven’t had time for many of my personal pursuits, evidence of them are all around. A full book shelf is dedicated to vintage magazines, wheel catalogs, Option and Dori-Ten, as well as a host of manuals and more technical works.

And a lone A3E sits on display in the living room as a frequent reminder that old things are awesome… often inspiring me to simplify design… and search Kijiji for old Toyotas.

I seldom get to do real wrenching any more, but there always seems to be some small project I’m tied up in. Pieces of them generally find their way to my desk.

The first solo event of the season is schedule seven days from now… but with the current scene outside, it is almost sure to be post-phoned.

Given the excitement I have for the new SSC class, and a great recent Kyusha wheel find for the FRS, I am quite sad for the delay… especially when work scheduling and travels suggest that I am destined to be away more than I am around this coming season.
