The Number 2 Reason Why My Car Is Going To Blow Up 5

1990TRD_Catalog_pp.6-7AFM tuning.  The car is all but road worthy after a solid afternoon in the barn.  An alignment and a few other details remain, but the turbocharger is fitted in it’s entirety.  You guys all tell me I’m going to blow up if I run the stock computer.  You say that tinkering with the AFM and modifying the stock management is hack.  Having minimal experience at it… I disagree completely.  This short excerpt is from the 1990 TRD parts catalog.  Value it as you will.

Of course, it is not my only resource, and others offer a little better detail.  I’ll get into them later on.

But by your input… if the AFM doesn’t kill my car, not having an intercooler will.  My beloved 4AGE doesn’t stand a chance.

It’s got nothing to do with the intercooler or AFM, it’s the 10.3 compression 😉

Please bring a video camera with you on those first few tuning runs, I don’t want to miss out!

    All the best

Haha, it will be fine, look at the crap other unmentionables have gotten away with.

Just don’t load it up on a hill on your first tuning run.

Knowing nothing of this route, I would never profess to know better. And I never did. In fact, I now recall that the 5MGE has been turbocharged in a similar manner.

Rather, I simply thought that not putting an intercooler was a bit of an unnecessary shortcut, since it is well within your capabilities.

Will certainly have the camera rolling, and am hopeful to use the potential of my iPhone to get stuff done on the street before logging dyno time.

Randy, you are certainly not the only one who told me I should have an intercooler. It’s not about cost or time. It’s actually what I want. At least for now…
