This Old Friend

I bought it on a whim on New Year’s Eve. I had been in the market for a Tundra, but this was close…ish and too good of a deal to pass up. Even though it is the worst color that Toyota has ever painted a vehicle, this UCK45 Sequoia, has turned into a workhorse that my family can barely imagine living without.

Bikes in the back and day trips to the park?
Vacations with family and… extended family?
Work trips into undeveloped territory?

I tend to pamper the cars I love, but this big tree is shown little attention. Sometimes the kids use it as a playhouse. Sometimes it misses its regular maintenance interval. Hell… I even let my wife drive it.

If the world ended tomorrow… I would consider myself well on the way to having the perfect vehicle to help re-start humanity.

That said… it’s been a few years, and the bark on the old tree is starting to crack. I’ve never put this kind of mileage on any other vehicle.

Weather in the last week has turned to shit though, and I have chosen it over all other vehicles in our fleet.

And as kids age, hair turns grey, and practical necessities take over other parts of my life… I start to wonder if it should take over my car-life as well.

Do I try on my old Mechanix gloves and open the toolbox to patch things up? Do I move on?
