White Carbon Fiber 2

splitter1When I disassembled the car last fall, I hucked the OEM plastic undertrays.  They are pretty important pieces for cooling and aero, and function relatively well (so some say), but mine were almost torn in half and missing large pieces.  That’s why I’m making a splitter now, when I probably should be tuning turbo bits.  I used white carbon fiber… aka brown fiberglass… aka Birch plywood.  I know some of you think it’s hack, but it’s not.  Birch plywood offers the best weight/stiffness ratio of any plywood, and in that regard it’s actually comparable to basic fiberglass although it’s a helluva lot easier to work with.

It’s not cheap for plywood, but certainly is cheap in comparison to the composite alternatives.  I spent $60 on a 4×8 sheet.  You can find it in the “Exotic Plywood” section of your local Rona.  F*** Home Depot.
I’d rather spend money on car. Still no camera.

    This is called driftwood.

I made some of my own this weekend, but only because I scrape everything and want my Run Free to last.
