Zenkei 2 Door

Oops. The car that twice I said I would never get rid of is gone. The final explanation of that is that sometimes ones appetite is bigger than one’s stomach. This car simply got too hard for me, and it was all my own doing. If I had more money it would have stayed in storage forever, probably tuned even harder and driven any less.

And I say driven even less, but that’s probably impossible. In the last few years of it’s time with me I only found a couple opportunities to take this car on a closed course and really enjoy it. It was amazing there, but an embarrassment and pain in the ass on the street. I loved it dearly, but don’t miss it at all now that it’s gone… especially when I see it rolling hard around town all glassed and vinyled up.

It’s still a 4A-GE but twice at auto-x on the weekend, supposed Showa Toyota enthusiasts were left confused.  “S” “L”??  What engine is that?? As SL-OW as it still is, it’s gotten a whole lot better than it was a few months ago.  I’m supposed to be wrenching the BC6, but the AE86 is so easy and enticing.  I’ve basically […]

You Wouldn’t Be Fooled

This is a bushing from the inside of my steering rack. At auto-x on Saturday, the car felt a little off.  Not… horribly, but at times I felt an odd pulsation at the wheel, and on the drive home I noticed that the wheel wasn’t dead straight.    The post event inspection looked alright however… and it wasn’t until I […]

Slow. More lessons from Initial D, although you certainly don’t have to have watched the show to know that this isn’t fast. I’m actually somewhat embarrassed to be showing you this. I only hit one cone all day… but I was just as much of a mess as ever. As embarrassing as it is, it’s actually REALLY fun. Although the […]

Not God Hand

Because I never use my AE86 for anything but club events, I can insure it through Legends Insurance for a very reasonable premium.  Furthermore, with an appraisal I can be assured that I will be rewarded more than pennies for my “old tin can” should anything ever happen to it.  Norm at Vintage Vehicle Appraisals came by and looked at […]

I had posted a wanted ad for stock injectors, resistor and harness… but I found all those things hiding in the garage today.  Those and a complete small port harness, 3 large port heads, large port intake manifolds and TVIS bits, plus some weird purple injectors which fit the rail and harness, but are unknown to me. The car is […]

Seriously. I’m embarrassed about my recent performances. The car needs to be more business. The JDM bumpers look good. So good. No one has ever looked at an AE86 and said… “but that’d be so rad with USDM bumpers.” No one in Japan has ever said that even. It’s just crazy. But… I think I’m going there anways. I love […]
