Q's New Era Hachiroku Ryan's SW11

Past Projects

In the fall of 2001 Ryan and I started assembling and modifying cars together.  All started in different forms, some from scratch, others from near full build requiring only tweaking and tuning.  Nevertheless, all of these cars have been ours… we have a tendency to go through a lot:  lots that never even made mention here, and some that I spent hours writing and thinking about.  It is some form of A.D.D…. really.  In the first few years after we teamed up, neither of us managed to make it through a single season with one car.  They came and went. Mostly it was because we liked to dream, but it was also partly because there was always someone willing to buy.  Cash just looks so good.

Note: These charts are for fun.  Don’t confuse them for us being hard core and bad ass.  Check it out.

I said in an earlier post that my WRX has on paper, one inch less head room than other model Impreza’s. STI’s have different bucket seats, and wagons are taller. This is the most comfortable stock car that I’ve ever owned, but my seating position does need to be adjusted somewhat when I put a helmet on. It hasn’t been […]

After suspension mods, drivetrain mods make the most difference to performance and feel IMO. Drivetrain, not engine… so LSD’s and final drives etc. It’s probably the area where the WRX actually suffers in comparison to the STI. Open front diffs, and viscous center diffs that are too stiff for some applications and too soft for others versus torsen fronts and […]

Good looking car. At that pitiful speed though, there is little for me to regret whilst driving a well used WRX. I’d like to see it on some skinny 15’s. If you can’t get through the full lap, then watch this instead. Lol.

ZN6 Chase

If you’ve been here more than 10 years this will have meaning.  Otherwise, I’m just trying to be hard.  Between horizontally opposed engines and Pleiades sister’s this joke from over a decade ago has coincidental meaning now that is totally rad.  My wife and sister are disgusted with me… and that’s part of the fun. ツクワドロン=Tsukuwadoronn=Squadron… but I’m a one […]

While replacing wheel bearings, I finally got around to doing a bit of a performance alignment.  With horrible weight distribution and front drive, I’ve been wanting more caster for this car.  Sadly, it is only adjustable with offset bushings, or set back strut top mounts from companies like Whiteline.  They are dollars though.  A poly bushing kit that will do […]

Your Bugeye has the aluminum control arms?! It would’ve came with the stamped steel ones when it was new.

Do you know if they’re the GD STI ones (more caster, more camber) or just the GC WRX ones (more caster, same camber)?

hmm. I’m still a Subaru noob. I wasn’t aware of such a difference between control arms. I was only aware of the JDM Spec C/USDM 04-06 STI arms with plus 1 degree of caster, which these are certainly not.

Mine are dimensionally equivalent to the stock steel arms.
