Past Projects

In the fall of 2001 Ryan and I started assembling and modifying cars together.  All started in different forms, some from scratch, others from near full build requiring only tweaking and tuning.  Nevertheless, all of these cars have been ours… we have a tendency to go through a lot:  lots that never even made mention here, and some that I spent hours writing and thinking about.  It is some form of A.D.D…. really.  In the first few years after we teamed up, neither of us managed to make it through a single season with one car.  They came and went. Mostly it was because we liked to dream, but it was also partly because there was always someone willing to buy.  Cash just looks so good.

Note: These charts are for fun.  Don’t confuse them for us being hard core and bad ass.  Check it out.

attribute2defineAccel. - I was thinking straight up in terms of 0-100km/h. Four seconds at the top. Power - just peak hp, I didn't think about torque or area under the curve at all. Lightness - the inverse of weight. 900kg at the top. Roadholding - sustainable lateral acceleration. I'm not saying I've measured this for all cars. We have data on some and experience fills in the holes. Balance - defined as how well the car reacts to drive input. Throttle response, cornering prowess and overall drivability when it matters. Amenities - luxuries and comforts. How much do you want to take this car on a long road trip with your whiny girlfriend? Fit/Finish - full marks would be equivalent to new condition. Offroad - a few of our vehicles see offroad use, but more than that, I thought it would be an interesting way to show how some of our "sports" cars have strayed from practicality. Zero means the car is practically banned from all but glassy smooth asphalt. Durability - call it the general lack of concern that something is going to break.

As much as I hate driving my car around on the streets, it is inconceivable how much I love it through pylons. I was not fast, but the car is pretty damned close to perfect.  I could really spend a lot of time dissecting it, and I will…  later.  (ha)  This is just a tease and exclamation of relief.  The […]

It Was Worth It

2

Only one more week with stupid camera.  The car is finally on the road once again… that’s a good thing, but I’ve become an old man and it’s not the fun that it once was.  Bang and scrape got tired.  4000rpm+ cruising on the highway?  And why does everything smell like oil and gasoline now?  I could wine and bitch […]

Back To The Future

1

Pissed off. 1. It’s almost May.  It is supposed to be hachiroku season. 2. This weather is costing me money in more ways than one. 3. My damn camera is in Japan with my wife, and this is the best that my cell phone could muster. 4. I just spent 1.5 hours in a sick ass snow/wind storm trapped between […]

Mosquito Death

This picture is a few days old.  The garage is a gigantic mess now, but I can’t photograph it.  My wife took both of our camera’s to Japan for a month.  As I said before… the SW11 was in for a few simple things prior to season.  The AE86 however; I’m beginning to wonder if it will be ready to […]

Still A Ways To Go

I said I wasn’t going to play the fitment game… but I think I did decent enough by ****.  Longer control arms go a long ways.  These are my 14 6J +6 A3E’s.  Rear will use spacers.  Front could probably use 1″… but at my practical ride height there is no point.  I have since bead blasted the A3E’s and […]
