Q's New Era Hachiroku Ryan's SW11

Past Projects

In the fall of 2001 Ryan and I started assembling and modifying cars together.  All started in different forms, some from scratch, others from near full build requiring only tweaking and tuning.  Nevertheless, all of these cars have been ours… we have a tendency to go through a lot:  lots that never even made mention here, and some that I spent hours writing and thinking about.  It is some form of A.D.D…. really.  In the first few years after we teamed up, neither of us managed to make it through a single season with one car.  They came and went. Mostly it was because we liked to dream, but it was also partly because there was always someone willing to buy.  Cash just looks so good.

Note: These charts are for fun.  Don’t confuse them for us being hard core and bad ass.  Check it out.

I had to make up for my heavy weight shift knob somehow. It needs a bit of clean up still, but the scale says I’m down more than 1700grams. That’s more than 3 shift knobs! I’ve got a pile of stuff to sandblast; this will go in that pile too and we’ll see how many more grams I can knock […]

I’ve said before, I hate the dinky plastic shift knobs that come on most cars.  Many of you agree with me, and replace your shift knobs with big fat plastic shift knobs…  I don’t really get it.  A gear lever should have a nice weight to it.  A shift knob should fall into gear with the slightest nudge, and have […]

Play the odds. I advise you to buy my car next time I list it for sale. I’m an emo guy with an often grim look at the future. Three months ago I might have sold you my AE86 for like $6500. If that had been the case, I would have gladly bought it back from you today for nine […]

Don’t Be A Nice Guy

The birthday paradox applies everywhere and makes he world feel very small sometimes. Like when I stumble upon a good wheel find for the Celica and pull the trigger without much thought. With 120million people in Japan, the seller ends up being just down the street from my Japanese residence; a fellow ST185 and AE86 owner; and a former resident […]

Coincidence

I came in with caution. Lots of guys talk about bringing there daily drivers out to rally-x. Lots of guys drive 100hp 2WD cars. Lots of people drive brand new Subaru’s. My experience is that stuff breaks. Prior to this event I had attended three rally-x events in two different cars… and replaced on those two cars, one clutch, two […]

Andrew’s a professional writer, so I hate to scribble on his paper. He’s busy though and I’m on a break. This will be brief.  I’ve wondered sometime now, about building a truck or SUV for going fast off road.  The parts off-roaders need to creep through washouts and bog through mud holes are pretty similar to the parts a good […]
