Q's New Era Hachiroku Ryan's SW11

Past Projects

In the fall of 2001 Ryan and I started assembling and modifying cars together.  All started in different forms, some from scratch, others from near full build requiring only tweaking and tuning.  Nevertheless, all of these cars have been ours… we have a tendency to go through a lot:  lots that never even made mention here, and some that I spent hours writing and thinking about.  It is some form of A.D.D…. really.  In the first few years after we teamed up, neither of us managed to make it through a single season with one car.  They came and went. Mostly it was because we liked to dream, but it was also partly because there was always someone willing to buy.  Cash just looks so good.

Note: These charts are for fun.  Don’t confuse them for us being hard core and bad ass.  Check it out.

LSD went in this weekend. Second time in and out, we’re getting faster at it. Counting turns, looks like we went from a 4.11 ratio to about a 3.9. Small change but noticable on the street where the first two gears don’t feel as useless as before. Donor was an 88 MA70 Turbo Supra and unit looked to be in […]

LSD IN

First event of the season (a Test n’ Tune) was this past weekend. In the week before I’ve had the whole diff apart on the floor and the passenger front brakes apart to change a wheel stud. With my current lack of trust in the car, it was a white nuckled 130km road trip. No radio and the constant chirping […]

Spring Debut – GZ20 and Zenkei Coupe

It’s time. My ’86 has been mostly reassembled and only awaits a wheel alignment and insurance. Most of what I had planned over the winter never happened. What else is new. I have however, spent the last week ripping the suspension apart to replace bushings and balljoints. Very good. I’ve also removed the EGR completely, replacing the crushed piping with […]

Ryan's taking pictures while Andrew and I are hard at it.Saturday morning after a disappointing night of cards. Ryan, Andrew and I finally took some serious action towards the upcoming season. I've been invited to display the car at the World of Wheels next weekend in the CSCC booth, so the plan was to finish cleaning the 86 up and get it running. Unfortunately, after a few months in storage and a few minor part changes, we can't keep it running. In past years we've always wanted to get our cars to this show and it hasn't happened. At this point it doesn't look like this year will be any different. [...]

GZ20 LSD Change

Ryan sliding turn 3 at RCMO The CSCC put together a post season solo event today, and though the 86 is stashed away, we did manage to get the Soarer out. We got together Thursday night to go over a few things, and drop the car down to track height. It can go really low. [...]

Running the GZ20 on the Road Course

Running angle through the slalomn [...]amongst all this I took the 86 out one more time yesterday to a surprise solo event at Race City Speedway. I really only have a pair of r-compounds left, so I ran on my dead drift wheels and tires. Very loose set up. Of the twenty some cars out, I got dusted by an S2k, STi, and 911 not too disappointing. I'd forgotten what it was like to play on the road course. The speed is incredible. Enough to make me wonder what the excitement of drifting really is. Entering turn 6 in fourth gear, braking late, downshifting and turning in... this was real fun. I guess what it comes down to is that I just love driving, and I'll do whatever I can. It was definitely nice to have a clock again, and to have some big boys remind me of a great challenge [...]
